Everyone wants a hot tip for the big race days. Analyst Ray Huxley has examined the fields and come up with his five best bets for the day at Caulfield: I loved the comment of Jim Cassidy when his Caulfield Cup mount Hawkspur drew barrier 16 (he'll start from 14 if the emergencies do not start) in the Caulfield Cup. ''Doesn't matter,'' said Cassidy with a shrug. The veteran jockey wasn't going to get concerned four days before the race. Read more

One of Australia's most famous jockeys Roy Higgins this week wrote about his association with the Caulfield Cup. 

"Since I finished riding a few decades ago, people have marvelled at my Caulfield Cup record - or lack of it. During my time in the saddle I was very fortunate. In the 1960s and '70s, I managed to win nearly every major race on the Australian calendar and was lucky enough to win many of them multiple time. But when it comes to questions about my success in the Caulfield Cup, I answer them this way: I have won a Caulfield Cup but I have never been first past the post. My Caulfield Cup rides always looked so good heading into the spring, but that never translated into victories on the day. Many of the rides I was offered were often out of my weight range. So a few seconds was as good as it got." Read more
